BIOGRAPHY
Cinzia Canneri is a photojournalist based in Italy who specializes in stories about the human condition, social change, gender and immigration issues. Having worked extensively in the Horn of Africa, she has photographed the condition of women from a political, social and cultural point of view.
Over the years, she also documented social issues related to workers’ exploitation. In 2016, Canneri’s project Like Two Wings on asbestos victims received an award of excellence at the POYi Science and Natural History Picture Story and the first place at the Umbria Fest in Italy. She has published with international magazines such as the New York Times, Afeten Posten, Days Japan, L'Obs, Aftenposten, The Washington Post, Internazionale, and Espresso.

In 2017, Cinzia Canneri began documenting the experiences of Eritrean women fleeing Eritrea’s repressive government. Since the outbreak of war in the Tigray region of Northern Ethiopia in 2020, her scope has expanded to include the stories of Tigrayan women fleeing from armed invasion.
Both groups have been the targets of systematic sexual violence – rape, shooting, torture – that, due to social stigma, limited health facilities, and journalistic access, remains insufficiently reported by news media. By amplifying the stories and voices of the survivors, this project reimagines the idea of resilience as a complex collaborative challenge against pain, trauma, and loss.
