Climate and Indigenous: new strategic positions at the Global Forum

The Global Indigenous Peoples’ Climate Justice Forum nominates the first wester person as the Chief of Strategic Cooperation

Claudia Laricchia is the first European person just chosen by the Global Indigenous People’s Climate Justice Forum for leading the Strategic Cooperation. The Forum represents hundreds indigenous and local communities all over the world - that are the 5% of the world population protecting 85% of world biodiversity- and about 100 organizations.
Among them is the worldwide popular "The Forest Man Foundation" referring to Jadav Molai Payeng, the man who planted an entire forest as large as 13 soccer fields, in 40 years. The Forum is based in Assam, India, the most iconic place for biodiversity, wildlife and health, with its more than 100 medical plants; 97 Indigenous communities and the worldwide top 10 biodiversity park in Kaziranga.

The first activity of the Forum, Strategic Cooperation Area, is the organization, in cooperation with Smily Academy - sustainable mindset and inner level for youth -of an international experience for future young sustainable entrepreneurs that will be held in Assam from March 20 to 26 2024. Participants can apply by December 2nd using this form.

"I have known Claudia for about 10 years - said the Forum's President and Smily Academy India Director, Rituraj Phukan -, and her skills and professional successes are undoubted. She welcomed Barack Obama in Italy during his first speech on the nexus between food tech and climate after his presidency; she also is a member of Al Gore's network, and she achieved many results on sustainability. But the Indigenous Forum did not choose her for what she accomplished or she did. We chose her for what she is, as our politics of being states. She is a special soul we resonate with; a bright human being we trust, and the visionary mind that can truly contribute to our mission embodied by this diversity and change we are bringing in the world".

"I am humbled for this honorable position - said Claudia Laricchia - and I will serve Indigenous Peoples’ regenerative development with all my energy and commitment because who serves them is serving the entire biodiversity and so life on the Planet”.

This new alliance and the first initiative born from it, will be presented at the upcoming COP28 in Dubai.
