UNIDO ITPO Italy partecipa al Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS)
Il Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) tenutosi ad Abu Dhabi all’Università Paris – Sorbonne, dal 27 al 30 marzo 2017, ha dato la possibilità ai leader partecipanti di dar voce al tema della trasformazione della manifattura, incoraggiare maggiori investimenti, promuovere l'innovazione e guidare lo sviluppo globale delle competenze necessarie. Il GMIS ha riunito 1.200 delegati tra cui leader mondiali, CEO esperti dell’industria, ricercatori specializzati e docenti universitari, così come rappresentanti del Network UNIDO ITPO. Il GMIS è stato organizzato dal Ministero dell'Economia degli Emirati Arabi Uniti (UAE) e dall'Organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite per lo Sviluppo Industriale (UNIDO).
Dando avvio ai lavori con la cerimonia ufficiale di apertura, alla presenza di Sua Altezza lo Sceicco Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, il Vice Presidente e Primo Ministro degli UAE, il Direttore Generale di UNIDO , Li Yong ha accolto i delegati e si è detto “lieto di essere in mezzo a leader di spicco ed esperti dell’industria che stanno plasmando il mondo della manifattura”.
Li ha detto che il GMIS “consentirà alla comunità internazionale di collegare le sfide fondamentali che la manifattura si trova oggi ad affrontare con le idee innovative che renderanno possibile l'industrializzazione sostenibile e il raggiungimento degli SDG (gli Obiettivi dello Sviluppo Sostenibile)”.
Il Direttore Generale di UNIDO ha sottolineato l'importanza dei partenariati dicendo: “La Nuova Rivoluzione Industriale è troppo vasta, troppo complessa e troppo universale per qualsiasi singola entità o paese per abbracciarla o affrontarla completamente da sola. Abbiamo bisogno di creare partenariati multilaterali che ci permetteranno di portare avanti la necessaria industrializzazione e i processi industriali di retrofit”.
Nel suo discorso di apertura, il co-presidente di GMIS, Il Sultano bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Ministro dell'Economia degli Emirati Arabi Uniti, ha detto: “Oggi, gli UAE potrebbero non essere il primo posto che viene in mente quando si pensa alla manifattura ma, siccome ci troviamo sulla cuspide di una Quarta Rivoluzione Industriale, sono le nazioni come gli Emirati Arabi che hanno più da guadagnare, e anche molto da offrire, in mezzo ai rapidi cambiamenti nel settore manifatturiero.”
UNIDO ITPO Italia insieme ad altri ITPO hanno partecipato attivamente alla GMIS come espositori e hanno preso parte al dibattito tra i Leader Globali, focalizzato sul ruolo che la manifattura può giocare nel ripristinare la prosperità globale. I delegati sono stati invitati a trovare soluzioni innovative di lungo termine alle sfide che l’ industria manifatturiera si trova ad affrontare, in particolare nel contesto dello spostamento verso una produzione più orientata all'innovazione e alla tecnologia, che cambierà la natura della manifattura, reinventerà il concetto di lavoro, ridisegnerà i confini tradizionali delle industrie e creerà nuove fonti di lavoro per le persone, le imprese e intere economie.

UNIDO ITPO Italy participated in the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS)
The Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) held in Abu Dhabi’s Paris-Sorbonne University, from 27 - 30 March 2017 provided a voice and a venue for leaders to transform manufacturing, encourage greater investment in capabilities, foster innovation and drive global skills development. The GMIS brought together 1,200 delegates including world leaders, expert industry CEOs and specialist researchers and academics, as well as representatives from the UNIDO ITPO Network. The GMIS was hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Economy and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Addressing the official opening ceremony, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, UNIDO Director General, LI Yong welcomed delegates and said he was “gratified to be in the midst of prominent leaders and industry experts who are shaping the world of manufacturing”.
Li said the GMIS “will allow the international community to connect the fundamental challenges faced by manufacturing with transformational ideas that will make possible sustained industrialization and achieving the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)”.
The UNIDO Director General emphasized the importance of partnerships, saying, “The New Industrial Revolution is too vast, too complex, and too universal for any single entity or country to embrace it on its own. We need to create multi-stakeholder partnerships that will allow us to drive the necessary industrialization and industrial retrofitting processes forward.”
In his opening address, GMIS co-chair, Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, United Arab Emirates, said, “Today, the UAE might not be the first place that springs to mind when you think of manufacturing. But, as we stand on the cusp of a Fourth Industrial Revolution, it is nations like the United Arab Emirates which have the most to gain, and the most to offer, amid rapid changes in the manufacturing sector.”
UNIDO ITPO Italy together with other ITPOs participated actively in the GMIS as exhibitor and attended the debate between Global Leaders focused on the role that manufacturing can play in restoring global prosperity. Delegates were asked to find long-term innovative solutions to the challenges faced by manufacturing industry, in particular in the context of the structural shift towards more innovation- and technology-oriented production, which will change the nature of manufacturing, reinvent the notion of work, redraw the traditional boundaries of industries, and create new sources of value for people, firms and entire economies.
