D-Orbit Signs Agreement with Commercial Indian Launch Operator Skyroot Aerospace

Fino Mornasco, Italy, November 3rd, 2021: Space logistics company D-Orbit announced the signing of a technical agreement with the Indian launch operator Skyroot Aerospace. The preliminary contract sets the ground for a study on a joint pilot mission involving Skyroot’s Vikram launch vehicle and D-Orbit’s ION Satellite Carrier.

ION Satellite Carrier is a space vehicle designed to host a batch of satellites and third-party payloads, transport them along and across orbits, and release them individually in customized slots, ready to start their mission. Vikram is a series of launch vehicles geared towards the small satellite market that can be launched within less than 72 hours from a mobile launch infrastructure that can be assembled on any site characterized by minimal range safety requirements.

This technical agreement fits within D-Orbit’s offer of launch and deployment services characterized by high responsiveness and a late mission definition.

We are proud to join efforts with Skyroot in our quest to streamline access to space,” said Matteo Bartolini, D-Orbit’s Launch Manager. “India is rapidly emerging as a leader in rocket technology. Skyroot’s Vikram rocket family is characterized by an extraordinary level of launch flexibility that can provide an interesting match with the proven capabilities of our ION Satellite Carrier.”

We are happy to partner with D-Orbit in our joint efforts to democratize access to space,” said Pawar Cuman Chandana, CEO of Skyroot Aerospace. “D-Orbit is building cutting edge in-space transportation systems that will strengthen our offering to customers widening our last-mile delivery of payloads into precise orbits

About D-Orbit

D-Orbit is a market leader in the space logistics and transportation services industry with a track record of space-proven technologies and successful missions.

Founded in 2011, before the dawn of the New Space market, D-Orbit is the first company addressing the logistics needs of the space market. ION Satellite Carrier, for example, is a space vehicle that can transport satellites in orbit and release them individually into distinct orbital slots, reducing the time from launch to operations by up to 85% and the launch costs of an entire satellite constellation by up to 40%. ION can also accommodate multiple third-party payloads like innovative technologies developed by startups, experiments from research entities, and instruments from traditional space companies requiring a test in orbit.

D-Orbit is a space infrastructure pioneer with offices in Italy, Portugal, UK, and the US; its commitment to pursuing business models that are profitable, friendly for the environment, and socially beneficial, led to D-Orbit becoming the first certified B-Corp space company in the world.
