IN THE HEART OF THE CITY OF ALBA, THE WORLD MARKET OF THE ALBA WHITE TRUFFLE RETURNS 

The largest truffle market in the world, together with the AlbaQuality Exhibition,  with its excellent food and wine, are the protagonists in the 9 weekends of the Fair

The ideal location to discover the extraordinary truffle heritage of Langhe, Monferrato and Roero, as well as the perfect place to appreciate and buy the finest specimens of Tuber magnatum Pico with controlled and guaranteed quality, the World Market of the Alba White Truffle remains the undisputed center of the 91st edition of the Fair: inside the historic venue of the Cortile della Maddalena, overlooking the centrally located Via Vittorio Emanuele II, every weekend you will be able to buy certified specimens of the precious underground mushroom, directly from the hands of the trifolao.

"The International Alba White Truffle Fair applies a rigorous selection protocol for the fresh product on sale: every year the Municipality of Alba appoints a commission composed of experts that draws up a protocol to regulate the sale of the truffle which all the sellers present at the Fair, the trifolao as well as the traders must comply with - says Antonio Degiacomi, President of the National Center for Truffle Studies -. Every day the judges of the Quality Commission perform an accurate sensory analysis by selecting only the products suitable for sale which, at that point, are counted and weighed. In order to effectively control the characteristics of the product, the Quality Commission delivers special numbered bags, which must be used for the sale of each truffle, in a number equal to that of the truffles that pass the control. These special wrappers, through their identification codes, make it possible to trace the supplier: in the event of a complaint, received at the 'Consumer Desk' within 48 hours after the purchase, the seller is required to replace the truffle if it has been evaluated negatively by the Quality Commission".

The "Consumer Desk" is available every Saturday and Sunday of the Fair, at the center of the World Market, and throughout the week at the headquarters of the National Truffle Studies Center in Piazza Risorgimento, to inform consumers about their purchase rights, collect reports and provide advice on the conservation and consumption of truffles. Regarding the methods of using the Truffle, the memorandum of understanding adopted by the Piedmont Region in all the fairs dedicated to it was confirmed, within the regional borders. Since last year, a dedicated commission has defined the specifications for a purchase method for the complete protection of the buyer and seller, which allows them to handle and smell the product in total safety: the truffles will then be placed in a special glass container, equipped with a lid in food-grade silicone, to ensure the usability of the product in order to avoid any possible risk.

And for those wishing to deepen their knowledge of the most prized underground mushroom in the world, it will be possible to participate in the Sensory Analysis of the Truffle held by the experts of the National Center for Truffle Studies, who will lead small groups of participants to discover the secrets of the White Truffle of Alba, including olfactory tastings, sensory and practical tests. This is a special opportunity to find out how a truffle is chosen, how its quality is rated, how it is preserved and what are the best ways to consume it, so as to be able to appreciate it to the fullest.


THE ALBAQUALITY EXHIBITION

To act as a corollary to the World Market, along the outer perimeter of the space dedicated to the Alba White Truffle, the stands of the AlbaQuality food and wine exhibition also return, guaranteeing an overview of the excellence of the Piedmontese gastronomic and wine offer, paying particular attention to the local crafts, with products for tasting and sale to take away with you as a souvenir of your visit to the International Alba White Truffle Fair.

A specific area is also reserved for tasting the wines of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato offered within the Grande Enoteca by AIS Piemonte, the regional section of the Italian Sommelier Association.

HOW TO ACCESS

With limited access and after showing the Green Pass – in order to guarantee full compliance with anti-Covid regulations, as well as to protect the safety of visitors, those who work to organize the event and the entire territory - the World Market will open the doors of 2,000 square meters of venue, with an open-air solution that will guarantee adequate spacing even in case of bad weather thanks to the tensile structure mounted in the courtyard.

Tickets for accessing the area will be sold online (www.bit.ly/3nuknYu): the purchase system will guarantee priority access. It will also be possible to access the venue without having booked in advance, based on availability at the time, in compliance with the maximum limit allowed by the anti-Covid 19 protocol.

The cost of the full entrance ticket is € 4.00.

Reduced admission for groups over 30 people and specific agreements at € 3.50.

Free admission for those under 15.
