IN TUNE WITH NATURE

IN TUNE WITH NATURE

The International Alba White Truffle Fair returns from October 9th to  December 5th,

in its 91st edition: this year's keyword is "sustainability"

A circle closes, but at the same time remains open to the many new developments of this edition: this is the magic of the International Alba White Truffle Fair. After the many encounters in the surrounding hills, the Fair returns this year to Alba. This year’s venue for the event on Tuesday September 14th will be the Pala Alba Capital of Corporate Culture, where the theme of this 91st edition was unveiled last May. The Fair, held from October 9th to December 5th, will again bring the intoxicating scent of Tuber magnatum Pico all around the hills of Langhe, Monferrato and Roero.

The Fair will be anticipated by the traditional meeting with the Capodanno del Tartufo (Truffle New Year's Eve) - celebrated in the unprecedented setting of the Orsolina28 venue, in Moncalvo. The opening will be the "Tuber Primae Noctis" event, when there will be a toast to the first search for the trifolao after the biological stop. The curtain will be raised on the most eagerly awaited appointment of the Alba autumn, announcing a new course: "In Tune with Nature'' - this is the 2021 theme – will combine the Fair’s main attractions - food and wine - with a very contemporary challenge: sustainability.

The 91st edition of the Fair will be characterized by a decisive turning point: it will take into account some of the most contemporary issues, such as environmental protection, climate change, and sustainability, the latter intended not only for its environmental meaning, but also for its social and economic path towards a real energy transition and a zero-emission economy.

The heart of the Fair will remain the World Market of the Alba White Truffle, inside the Cortile della Maddalena, the Albaqualità showcase, and the Alba Truffle Show enriched by the Truffle Sensory Analysis directed by the judges of the National Center for Truffle Studies, by the Wine Tasting Experiences dedicated to the great Langhe, Monferrato and Roero wines and by the many chefs who will author the Foodies Moments.

The main novelty of this year will be the Dawn to Earth project, which, thanks to "Intersecting Sustainabilities", a series of encounters connecting Alba with the rest of the planet, will open up a dialogue between figures from the world of high finance, digital innovation, excellent craftsmanship, high fashion, art, music, design and culture and, of course, gourmet cuisine. Sustainability will be the common denominator of this symbolic convivial table, on Saturday the 30th and Sunday the 31st of October.

Among the other innovations, of special significance is the path started by the Fair Authority to obtain the ISO 20121 certification. This certification will be delegated to Bureau Veritas Italia, which will monitor the implementation of a management system for the Alba White Truffle Fair in line with the sustainability requirements of the international standard on sustainable event management. The goal is to minimize the impact on the environment and at the same time enhance the positive effects on people and the territory.

Among the confirmations, on the weekend leading up to the opening of the Fair, Saturday the 2nd and Sunday the 3rd of October, there will be ample space for folklore and tradition, thanks to the commitment of the Giostra delle Cento Torri. It begins on Saturday October 2nd with the Investiture of the Podestà and the historical re-enactment in Piazza Risorgimento, in an unprecedented formula, unrelated to the traditional race; the Palio degli Asini, in fact, will take place the next day, Sunday October 3rd, back again in its ancient venue, around the Cathedral of Alba.

The Fair also confirms its attention to new generations of visitors, setting up the Alba Truffle Bimbi area for children at the Palazzo Mostre e Congressi named after Giacomo Morra.

On November 14th, renewing its involvement with solidarity and in collaboration with the Cavour Regional Piedmontese Enoteca, the Castle of Grinzane Cavour will host the 23rd edition of the World Alba White Truffle Auction, an event that sees the participation, in person or connected online from all over the world, of great chefs and figures from the world of politics, culture, entertainment and the international jet set, gathered for the purpose of selling the best specimens of Alba White Truffle to raise funds to be allocated to charities in Italy and all over the world.

In addition to the Truffle, Wine and Sport events, meant to strengthen the link between the Alba White Truffle, the great wines and the world of sport, a full cultural and local immersion will therefore be guaranteed by a rich calendar of exhibitions and events, sports, reviews, meetings and concerts. An absolute new development this year, the start of the collaboration with Castello di Perno and the collective The Musketeers, an initiative to link cooking to art and focused on promoting the network of starred restaurants participating in the initiative, transforming them into a widespread museum of contemporary art.

"Climate change is making itself felt more and more, so much so that it has prompted us to postpone the opening of the Fair for a week, following the postponement of the truffle season. Sustainability is a current challenge that can no longer be postponed, and it represents the turning point that we decided to give to the event this year.  Before this, we concentrated on shifting the focus from the product, the Alba White Truffle, to its use in haute cuisine, with the involvement of numerous starred chefs of the territory, both national and international, alongside the chefs of trattorias and taverns in Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, guardians of the local gastronomic tradition - says the President of the International Alba White Truffle Fair, Liliana Allena -. It will be an edition with many confirmations and various innovations, which for 9 weeks will enliven the autumn of the Langhe and Roero area, Monferrato with Asti and the City of Turin".

"The City of Alba, Capital of Corporate Culture 2021 and the next headquarters of the Global Conference on Wine Tourism, is at the head of an extraordinary territory, and is capable of building a team with all the local players in the territorial system - adds the Mayor of the City of Alba -. Nature gives us the prized truffle, great wines and extraordinary agricultural products that contribute to make our welcome to thousands of visitors from all over the world an exceptional one. We owe the beauty of our hills to nature and the extraordinary modification carried out in it by our people. All we have to do is to preserve this wonder, which is protected by Unesco, and enhance it without ruining its heritage, which does not belong to us: we have received it as an inheritance from our fathers and we are simply its custodians, waiting to hand it over to future generations.”

"If 550 thousand people visit our Unesco hills every year, coming from all over the world, and they consider them the elite of gourmet tourism, it is thanks to the excellence of our products such as our wines and to an extraordinary ambassador which is the Alba White Truffle - underlines the President of the Piedmont Region -. Since its inception, the Fair has been a fundamental driver of its promotion not only for this unique product of our land, but for the entire Piedmontese and Italian territory. This is why we are very happy to introduce this new edition, which has the unmistakable scent of truffles, but also has the scent of a new beginning. And we will make sure that this event is something not to be missed and safe from every point of view, including health.  Because the Alba White Truffle Fair has always been a guarantee of quality in the world".
