LA PENULTIMA CENA / THE LANGHE SUPPER

LA PENULTIMA CENA / THE LANGHE SUPPER

September 20th will be the inauguration day of the “digital nomad window” created
by the artistic collective Anotherview to celebrate the authenticity of the hills
of Langhe Roero and Monferrato and the rarity of the White Truffle of Alba

The idea behind the video art work Anotherview No 19 La Penultima Cena / The Langhe Supper is to be a performative and shared act, for first time part of the work of Anotherview - an artistic collective consisting of Marco Tabasso, Tatiana Uzlova and Robert Andriessen. La penultima cena celebrates the authenticity of the Langhe Roero and Monferrato hills and the rarity of the Alba White Truffle: this will seal the biennial project carried out between 2019 and 2020, commissioned by the International Alba White Truffle Fair Authority and financed by the Piedmont Region, with the support of the Municipality of Alba and the Langhe Monferrato Roero Tourist Board.

"In light of what has happened in recent months, the work also wants to represent a desire for a return to conviviality and a more open and serene sociality, to being together finally free of the fears that the months of pandemic and consequent quarantine have left in our society, in Italy and in the world ”, affirm the artists of the collective.

The work shows the succession of twelve meals for twelve people and a master of ceremonies, seated on one side of the table, following the iconography of the last supper around the six-meter long table created by the Italian-Swedish artist and architect Duilio Forte, within a visionary scenography together with elements of scenography in continuous preparation. With a change of scene every two hours for a new group of diners - from truffle hunters to members of the Langhe Hazelnut brotherhood, from the presidents of medieval boroughs to kindergarten children, to personalities from the world of art, culture and of food and wine. The long action of participatory theater was filmed for twenty-four hours to become the subject of Anotherview's work about one special day, “theatricalized” and elevated to a metaphor of naturalistic beauty, culture and food and wine traditions of the Langhe. It is the memory of a cultural, theatrical and food and wine banquet which, through the plates, glasses and left objects, bears the signs, the traces of a collective experience animated by gestures, words, thoughts and tastings.

After the event at Tre Stelle, on October 13th  last year in the Barbaresco area - made possible thanks to the collaboration of Paolo Della Mora, who oversaw its creation -, and the exhibition in the Coro della Maddalena during the past edition of Fiera, the “digital nomadic window” becomes permanent in its own way, with the permanent installation near the Castle of Roddi. And like a window that opens onto the hills of the Langhe, backdrop of the search for the White Truffle of Alba, in the same way - ideally – the truffle  hunting season  will open, with the “trifulau” who will leave in the company of their faithful tabUi: the appointment for the presentation of the work will take place on the occasion of Tuber Primae Noctis, the “Truffle New”, Sunday September 20th, at the Roddi Castle, the new home of Anotherview's opera.

THE ANOTHERVIEW PROJECT

Marco Tabasso, Tatiana Uzlova and Robert Andriessen are the members of Anotherview Collective.  Starting from different points of view and experiences in the world of art, communication and design, they gave life to Anotherview, a "borderline" project that consists in the creation of "digital nomadic windows", each of which tells about a day of life in a different place in the world. Each "Day" was captured from a fixed point by filming uninterruptedly for 24 hours in very high resolution and is part of a future catalog of 365 days of unique views, selected following narrative criteria that address problems and questions regarding the risk of the environment and the problems connected to the continuous and intense process of urbanization in our civilization. It is also simply trying to “crystallize” the beauty of a place at a precise moment in its history.

An Anotherview window on a wall allows you to imagine being in a different place, in an “other” time compared to your daily life, immersed in a sort of ontological “estrangement”. At the same time, the contemporary vision of a past day that still seems current produces a sort of "nostalgia for the present", a form of romantic reaction to the digitization of our social life achieved through the use of the most advanced video shooting techniques.

So far, the Anotherview team has recorded panoramas in New York, Okaukuejo / Etosha National Park in Namibia, Shanghai, Camargue, Venice, Portofino, the Alps, Cape Town, India and Jerusalem.

Anotherview's windows have already been exhibited in important international fairs such as Jingart in Beijing, Art Basel / DesignMiami in Basel and Miami, Salone del Mobile in Milan and PAD in London.
