TRUFFLE HUB: THE GREAT NEWS OF THE 2020 EDITION IS IN RODDI

TRUFFLE HUB: THE GREAT NEWS
OF THE 2020 EDITION IS IN RODDI

Piedmont excellence: Sensory experiences, courses and cooking are the stars in the showcase (including the digital one) that will greet chefs, local products and producers

Perched on the top of the hill, the Roddi Castle - once owned by Gaius Francesco della Mirandola, descendant and grandson of the well-known humanist and philosopher Pico della Mirandola, and since 2001 owned by the Municipality of Roddi - majestically overlooks the village. Its origins have their roots in the 11th century, although the current construction probably dates back to the late 14th  / early 15th  century and was probably built by the powerful Faletti family from Roddia. With its central body and the two cylindrical towers, as well as with the numerous decorations and wooden coffered ceilings and the beautiful historic kitchens dating back to the sixteenth century, of all the Castles of the Langhe this is the one often defined as the most interesting from a historical and architectural point of view.

This prestigious location will be the seat of the "Truffle Hub", the great news of the 2020 edition of the International Alba White Truffle Fair: thanks to the important investment of the Piedmont Region, the ancient castle comes back to life, projected towards the future - thanks also to the collaboration with Microsoft Italy - in the role of territorial digital hub. Thanks to the entry of new and prestigious partners, the rooms belonging to the Castello di Roddi are now embellished by the furnishings of the Italian design brand Gufram, the tables are set with Frette tablecloths, a leading company in luxury household linen, while the kitchen equipment and the table settings are by the Sambonet Rosenthal Paderno group.

Here, the Fair Authority offers visitors experiences of great quality and charm, in a place rich in history. The relevance of the Roddi Castle thus becomes a virtual headquarters, through which the territory and the whole of Piedmont interact with the world, offering a blending  of history, culture, art, food and wine, for a digital showcase of Piedmont  excellence.

Alongside digital experiences, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in history thanks to the "Community Kitchen": a symbolic place that welcomes chefs, excellent local products and producers. Mentioned as early as the 1400s, the first "community house" was a place where "the heads of the house were called to elect the community prosecutors in the aforementioned dispute against local consignori. The house […] was also the seat of the local court […]”.

Here cooking courses will be offered - conducted by national and international chefs - and dinners with starred chefs will be organized that will involve producers of excellent local products, cooked and commented on by the protagonists.

The Roddi Castle will also be home to the Alba Digital Truffle Lab: a digital experience that, through the Truffle Judges of the National Center for Truffle Studies, will accompany participants in the discovery of the most prized mushroom in the world. The format will be enriched by concepts on the research method, from the organoleptic bases for the quality of the Alba White Truffle. For those purchasing the experience online, a box containing typical local products and a pair of American placemats made by Frette will be sent to their home.

Wine lovers will be able to take part in the Langhe Digital Wine Lab, which will offer guided digital tastings to discover the great Piedmont wines, in collaboration with the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani and Consorzio Alta Langa DOCG thanks to the partnership with Microsoft Italy, through the Teams platform. A rich calendar of events that can be enjoyed in every part of the world will explain the organoleptic characterization of the various types of wine, and the tasting and the pairing of wines with food will also be explored. The encounters will allow participants to experience the emotions that only great wines can give, under the expert guidance of an AIS Piedmont sommelier. The opportunity will be available throughout Italy, Europe and on the East Coast of the United States - just sign up a few days in advance, register and wait for the tasting kit to arrive.

In addition to the digital aspect, the Castello di Roddi - with its seven physical stations, in addition to the pilot - will offer the opportunity to live the experience of the Cooking School. There, through theoretical-practical courses, the recipes of the Piedmont tradition and of Langhe, Monferrato and Roero will be taught, revealing the secrets of the great iconic dishes of important national and international chefs.

The latter will finally be the protagonists of the thematic dinners that will be organized inside the Castle, with the involvement of the producers of Piedmont food and wine specialties. The dishes created, thanks to the collaboration with the sommeliers of AIS Piemonte, will be paired with the most important wines of Langhe, Monferrato and Roero.

The space belonging to the Castello di Roddi will remain usable throughout the year, available to the territory: it will be an exclusive place to organize private corporate events that will be tailor-made, such as team building courses, business dinners and open days for sponsors .
