Visions du Réel ready to host its participants within a disruptive digital environment

Virtual cinema markets supplement in-person experiences in 2021 and beyond

As the prospect of holding or attending concerts, festivals and other large gatherings isn't likely in the next several months, also film festivals and audio-visual markets continue to adapt their services and plan their virtual presence in 2021. It is also the case of Visions Du Réel, Swiss documentary film festival and audiovisual market, whose 52nd edition, will screen as an online event, from April 15-25. Given the current restrictions in place and the difficulties for many film professionals to travel to Nyon, Visions Du Réel decided to host the whole set of its Industry’s activities within WYTH, innovative technological solution that allows participants to fully experience the festival, all in one single, stable, easy-to-use environment.

This very special virtual experience also offers the users different ways to work, network, connect to each other and, why not, have fun all together. Its design is very customizable. Therefore, Visions du Réel team integrated into the framework its logo, slogan and visual identity and created an ad-hoc space that is now ready to host the 400 participants. Among the most relevant strengths of the system, its integration with Eventival, the world’s leading festival management platform, and the soon-to-be-revealed Smart Agenda functionality that allows participants to manage their own agenda, book meetings, join private rooms where to discuss about their projects in developments, with the possibility to exchange documents, pictures, watch movies, without leaving the festival environment.

WYTH's set of activities is centred on the creation and development of an innovative cloud system that allows to give life to hybrid locations, and to guarantee users’ interactions through a very intuitive, yet highly technological, digital environment. Last January, WYTH was used for a film market for the first time. According to the analytics, in 5-day event, the participants spent over 580 hours on the text and video networking sections. This data stresses how important it is for a film market to ensure relationships among participants, if not physical at least digitally, to satisfy their business’ needs. 

In practice, the WYTH Plaza tool, customised into Visions du Réel Café for this market, replicates what happens in a “normal'' physical situation during such an event: you look and check who is around, you pick a person, you engage on a conversation and either you leave or you exchange contact details. Well, this is exactly what WYTH allows you to do. With the advantage that, thanks to the combination of two match-making algorithms, the participants can automatically display the profiles of those who are more likely to be a good fit for their business, and join them in bilateral or multilateral chats or video chat rooms. All this, with a simple click! In addition, through WYTH you can access high quality screenings, attend workshops and conferences. All in one environment.

As stated by the WYTH CEO and Founder, Samuele Franzini: This is the most critical period of change in modern history. The integration created between WYTH and Eventival means that neither the festival management workflow nor the attendees' access to submissions, accreditations and the virtual event via their Eventival Account needed to change as the platforms communicate with each other. Thanks to that, the transition between the two completely different formats of the event can be seen more as just a change of the venue from a physical location to a virtual space. Thanks to its ground-breaking technology, WYTH allows organizers to make their digital event more physical or their physical event more digital.
