International Journalism Festival Announces Amazon as Main Sponsor

Amazon will partner with the eighth edition of the International Journalism Festival.
A common vision of the role of the reader, a key feature in the ongoing metamorphosis of journalism, forms the foundation of this new partnership.

The festival is the largest annual media event in Europe, with 210 sessions and 479 speakers in 2013.

Perugia, 6 March 2014 – The International Journalism Festival, that will take place from April 30th to May 4th in Perugia, today announced that Amazon has joined as main sponsor for 2014. Thanks to the central role it attributes to the reader, Amazon is the ideal partner to support and spread the culture of participation and the opportunities that exist for today’s content creators, including journalists and authors.

At the centre of the 8th edition of the festival, founded by Arianna Ciccone and Christopher Potter in 2006, are key issues linked to the rise of the reader and to journalism in the age of the open web.

“The International Journalism Festival welcomes Amazon as main sponsor of this year’s event,” said Arianna Ciccone. “We are excited to collaborate with one of the most innovative companies of our time as the digital age presents countless opportunities for journalists to create new ways to impart information to global audiences.”

Thanks to the support of Amazon, the festival will reinforce its role as a 5-day full-immersion thought laboratory where journalists can exchange opinions with readers and/or other journalists on the implications of the profound changes in news and knowledge (newspapers, books), transformed almost overnight from the static to the free-flowing, a new world that opens up seemingly unlimited possibilities.

Amazon, in this context, can provide a notable contribution: the company is well known for its focus on customer satisfaction – more than 200 million customers all over the world – which is rooted in the good habit of listening to and then adopting reader suggestions as well as the attention given to authors through the opportunities offered by its self-publishing platform. In parallel Amazon intends to support journalism, looking for new forms and new business models able to sustain quality journalism such as Kindle Singles.
