A FAIR IN THE SPIRIT OF SAFETY

A FAIR IN THE SPIRIT OF SAFETY

The protection of the health of citizens and tourists is at the heart of the plan by the Municipality of Alba and the Alba International White Truffle Fair Organization

With today’s inauguration of Friday October 9th, the 90th edition of the Alba International White Truffle Fair officially opens, demonstrating the courage of a territory that hasn’t given up its most representative event. Among the key elements of this year, there is a clear reference to security, further strengthened in order to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic risks.

After weeks of encounters the Police Headquarters issued precise regulations, requiring the adoption of a detailed protocol for event management. In order to ensure the setting of the Fair in full compliance with anti-Covid regulations, the Municipality of Alba and the International Truffle Fair Body have developed a safety plan that represents an important guarantee for everyone.

For all weekends from October 10th to December 6th (in addition to the special openings of Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th December) access to the city center will be limited from 10 to 18 and reserved for a precise number of people, therefore insuring adequate spacing, allowing attendees to enjoy the Fair in complete safety.

Within the town’s historic center there will be 13 gates giving access to the intermediate transit area, manned by over 50 employees who will monitor people’s access. Body temperature will be measured at each entrance, and fairgoers will be obliged to wear a mask also outdoors in public spaces, in accordance with the rules established for all of Italy.

From this area you will be able to enter the “core zone”, with further restricted access, always with the primary objective of avoiding gatherings, defending the right to health and at the same time protecting the needs of commercial activities. Full freedom of movement will be guaranteed to citizens of Alba residing in the center, approximately 700 families. Members of these families will obviously have free access to the entire area, and so will  employees and guests of the tourist facilities located in this restricted area; all of them will receive a bracelet at home or at work, which will be their free access pass. The Tourist Office in Piazza Risorgimento will manage the guests of the tourist accommodations. Disabled people and emergency vehicles will have access from all gates.

Finally, limited areas will be established for the individual events included in the calendar of the Fair (at the Cortile della Maddalena which will host the World Truffle Market, at the tensile structure in Piazza Risorgimento for the Salotto dei Gusti e dei Profumi, at the Palazzo Mostre and "G. Morra" Congresses for Alba Truffle Bimbi, as well as at Piazza Risorgimento, Piazza San Francesco, Piazza San Paolo and Piazza Bubbio in front of the former courthouse, for the various events that will take place in these spaces during the Fair). Access will be guaranteed following the monitoring of entrances and tracking of contacts.

"With a considerable joint organizational effort, we have worked together for the preparation of a particularly structured safety plan, which represents a guarantee factor for citizens and tourists, with the primary aim of safeguarding the health of those who live and work in Alba and all visitors who will take part in the proposals of this 90th edition of the Fair - the Mayor of the City of Alba, Carlo Bo, the Councilor for Tourism and Events of Alba Emanuele Bolla and the President of the Authority Alba International White Truffle Fair, Liliana Allena, affirm jointly -. We thank everyone with whom we worked in synergy in such a particularly complex moment: Police Headquarters, Prefecture, Police, Fire Brigade, health authorities and the many volunteers who will guarantee the smooth running of the Alba International White Truffle Fair, a very important event for the whole territory".
